The Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Room of the Prince Edward County Courthouse, 111 South Street, Farmville, Virginia to give citizens an opportunity to comment on proposed amendments (additions/deletions) to the Enterprise Zone Boundary. A proposed expansion of approximately 540 +/- acres primarily in the community of Rice, is being recommended.
The Enterprise Zone is a state sponsored program to encourage commercial and industrial development. The program offers no development incentives for residential improvements and does not affect property values or taxes. Inclusion of property within the Enterprise Zone may make the property more valuable in the event the property is sold or developed for commercial or industrial use by making it potentially eligible for certain Real Property or Job Investment Grant incentives from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
All interested citizens are urged to attend. For additional information regarding specific properties being considered for inclusion to or deletion from the Enterprise Zone, please contact Sharon Carney, Director of Economic Development at PO Box 625, 121 East Third Street, Farmville, Virginia 23901, or call (434) 392-1482, or e-mail scarney@co.prince-edward.va.us A list of properties under consideration for addition or deletion from the zone is available in the County Administrator's office, 111 South Street, Third Floor, Farmville, Virginia, or by clicking here.
