Local Parks
Prince Edward County is located in the center of an area served by several of Virginia's most beautiful state parks - in fact, Prince Edward County is the only county in the Commonwealth of Virginia to claim three State Parks wholly or partially within its borders!
- Twin Lakes State Park, located in the eastern part of Prince Edward County consists of two large lakes, that offer swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and picnicking. Cabins and campground facilities are also available.
- Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historical State Park, where the last major battle of the American Civil War was fought, has a brand new Visitor Center and the Hillsman House has been completely renovated.
- High Bridge Trail State Park, a Rails to Trails project, was the site of two skirmishes as the two Armies fought towards the end at Appomattox, has 31 continguous miles of level trail for non-motorized activities. As of April 2012, with the bridge reconstruction complete, the entire trail is now open to the public!
- Additionally, Bear Creek Lake State Park and Holliday Lake State Park are within 30 minutes of Farmville.
The 2,775-acre Briery Creek Wildlife Area, located in central Prince Edward County, opened in January 1989 and offers an 845-acre -stocked lake. The lake is stocked and managed by the Virginia Department of Game & Inland Fisheries. Briery is open during daylight hours for fishing and canoeing. the lake is stocked with large mouth bass, sunfish, channel catfish, crappie and bluegills, and more. Permanent boat ramps, restroom facilities and fishing piers are available for public use.
