Welcome to Prince Edward County, located in “Virginia’s Heartland,” at the crossroads of US 460 and US 15, two of Virginia’s primary east-west and north-south transportation corridors, which provides direct access to four interstate highway systems: I-95, I-85, I-81 and I-64. The County of Prince Edward was founded in 1754, with the Town of Farmville as the County seat.

In 2007 Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors and the Town of Farmville Town Council decided to form a joint Tourism Advisory Board to address the growing needs of the Tourism Industry in Prince Edward and Farmville. The first task was to complete an inventory assessment which addresses what amenities currently exist in the area. Next the Board tackled a SWOT analysis to determine how best to meet and greet each new tourism endeavor. The first piece to be completed was the "Just A Drive Away" brochure promoting the top 50 places to go, things to do and people to see througout the area. Finally, the Tourism Advisory Board is tasked with reporting to the Board of Supervisors and the Town Council so that both entities are kept up to date as this industry continues to grow in our area.

As the pages on this website will show, there is much to do and see; however, more is coming. The first sixteen miles of High Bridge Trail State Park opened on June 6th 2009, National Trails Day, and the balance of the 33.5 miles are currently under construction with the expectation that the High Bridge will be opened by 2011 in time for the Sesquicentennial - the 150th Commemoration of the American Civil War. We proudly represent ourselves well to all who come for the sights, for the shopping, for the life that is offered here in Prince Edward County.
