Now that The Tourism Advisory Board's has completed 2 years of working to market the Prince Edward and Farmville community, focus is now turned to how to take part in the Sesquicentennial - the Commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of the American Civil War. The last two weeks of the Civil War came through Prince Edward County. Work has already begun on the first project: the Digitization Project. This is a project done in conjunction with the Library of Virginia, and its hoped that as word gets out, families and individuals with artifacts from the Civil War, will bring them to a centralized location on a date yet to be specified, to be photographed and/or copied. The goal is to bring digital copies of everything from the Civil War from across the State, to the Library of Virginia for researchers to review during their studies. Each artifact brought forward will be documented and the owner will be asked if they would be willing to allow researchers access to the actual artifact, or not. Whichever way the owner decides, that decision will be respected. And, at least the artifact will be documented for posterity.

The second edition of the Just A Drive Away brochure, is now available online and through The Heartland Regional Visitor Center, as well as at all 10 Virginia Welcome Centers and the other 58 Certified Visitor Centers across the Commonwealth.
