Social Media Policy

The purpose of Prince Edward County’s official social media platforms is to present matters of public interest to Prince Edward County residents, businesses, and visitors of all ages and backgrounds in a moderated, online discussion board format.  

We encourage citizens to submit questions, comments, and concerns about these matters by email (info@co.prince-edward.va.us) or by submitting comments to particular posts.  However, please note the County's Facebook page is not a public forum, but a moderated discussion board reviewed periodically during normal business hours.

  • are clearly off topic;
  • contain spam and/or unrelated links to other sites;
  • advocate or depict illegal activity;
  • are obscene/vulgar/sexually explicit;
  • attack or disparage individuals or groups on the basis of race, religion, gender, or other protected classes;
  • contain personal attacks;
  • promote private business ventures, services and products through unsolicited or self-promotional posts or comments by users;
  • campaign for public office or promote a political organization or candidate;
  • contain information that may jeopardize the safety, security or proceedings of public systems or any criminal or civil investigations.

Prince Edward County may, at its sole discretion, post or share content that highlights local businesses, industries, agricultural producers and/or community partners when such content serves a public purpose; as such content is intended to inform the public, support the local economy and highlight community assets.  These posts do not constitute a recommendation, advertisement or preferential treatment of any specific business.  The County strives to ensure that business-related content is shared in a fair, objective, and community-focused manner and does not imply endorsement of one business over another.
