The Prince Edward County Department of Emergency Management coordinates a comprehensive, all hazards, emergency management program for Prince Edward County. This program includes activities of:

- Training
The Department develops and updates the Prince Edward County Emergency Operations Plan, as well as other interagency response procedures coordinating the efforts of all of Prince Edward County's emergency response agencies. Mutual aid agreements with other localities are also coordinated by the Department.
The Department also manages grant programs when available to assist with the purchase of new emergency response equipment along coordinating emergency response training and exercises.
Response
Response activities include assisting and coordinating the response activities of all Prince Edward County emergency response agencies. This coordination could be both in the field at emergency incidents as well as coordination of the Prince Edward County Emergency Operations Center. The Emergency Operations Center is the location where county's agency leaders as well as political leaders will gather to coordinate the county response to major incidents.
Recovery
Recovery activities include the coordination of recovery programs after disaster situations. These recovery programs could include federal programs such as Individual Assistance or Public Assistance declarations, as well as other state and non-profit programs.
Mitigation
Mitigation activities include actions taken to lessen the impact of disasters. Prince Edward County participates in a regional Hazard Mitigation Plan and program.
