Prince Edward County operates a municipal solid waste landfill to accommodate the non-hazardous solid waste disposal needs of its residents, businesses and industries.
The County's sanitary landfill is located in the western portion of the county and has a current useful life of approximately 20 years, with additional land for expansions.
Notice:
Prince Edward County is making major improvements to the Worsham Convenience Center to better serve our residents. Construction will begin in early August 2025, and should be completed in January 2026, weather permitting. During construction, a temporary drop-off site will be available at 18 County Shop Road.

Prince Edward County Landfill Fee Schedule & Payment Policy
Effective October 1, 2025
Effective October 1, 2025 (see County Public Notice), the payment process at the Prince Edward County Landfill will change:
- All businesses, commercial haulers, contractors, institutions, other governmental entities and out-of-county residents are charged a tipping fee and must pay in-full at the time of disposal, unless they have a pre-approved credit application on file with the County's Finance Department.
- County residents operating a commercial business (construction, yard work, tree trimming, rental properties, etc.), who dispose of waste generated by that commercial activity must pay the tipping fee in-full at the time of disposal.
- On-site payments at the landfill are required and must be made by credit card only. Cash and checks will not be accepted.

Notes:
- Prince Edward County residents may dispose of bagged, residential waste and household goods at the landfill at no charge. Household goods consist of bulky waste such as furniture, spring cleaning, toys or similar items.
- Residential waste and household goods are assessed a tipping fee at the time of disposal, if disposed of by a business, contractor or commercial hauler.
- Residential waste and household goods from rental properties, if disposed of by the landlord, are classified as commercial waste and will be assessed a tipping fee.
- Landfill employees are authorized to inspect all loads brought to the County Landfill.
- All loads must be covered when transported on roadways.

Late Payment Policy
|

All landfill charges shall be due and payable upon receipt of the invoice and shall be classified delinquent if unpaid by the payment remit date, as shown on the invoice.
|
|
A 10% penalty shall be added to all delinquent accounts.
|
|
Accounts that are thirty (30) days past due shall be assessed a service charge of 10% APR. Landfill privileges will be suspended after 60 days until payment (to include penalty and interest) is paid in full.
|
|
The County will pursue collection to the fullest extent of the law.

Notes:
- Landfill Accounts are billed monthly via statements that summarize the preceding month's scale tickets. These statements are sent to customers within the first five workdays of each month.
- Payment is required by the payment remit date, as shown on the invoice. The Late Payment Policy will apply to all accounts not paid by the payment remit date.
- All billing questions should be directed to the County Finance Department at 434-392-8837.
Materials Accepted
- General household waste, tires, and brush.
- Recyclables including plastic containers, newspapers, cardboard, clear glass and metal.

- Monday - Saturday: 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

- Closed: All Sites are closed on New Year's Day, July 4th holiday, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
