PRINCE EDWARD CO, VA --On October 14, 2024, Prince Edward County Animal Control Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies executed a search warrant at a home on Mountain Creek Road in the Meherrin area of the County after Animal Control received information about concerns for the welfare of animals that the owner was allegedly breeding and selling.
Officers seized 23 dogs, which are currently being held by County Animal Control pending a custody hearing in Prince Edward County General District Court scheduled for October 22, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.
Chief Animal Control Officer Adam Mumma is asking for the public’s understanding while his department manages the veterinary care and placement of these animals. With the County Animal Shelter at maximum capacity, strays and owner surrenders will be on an emergency-only basis until further notice.
