Press Release - 2005 Graduate Ja'Nyla Green Receives Vaccinate Prince Edward Scholarship Check

County Presents #Vaccinate Prince Edward Scholarship Check to 2025 Graduate

Ja’Nyla Green to Attend Hollins University in Fall

Prince Edward County, Va. (May 19, 2025) – Prince Edward County helped celebrate the Class of 2025 of Prince Edward County High School by participating in the Senior Showcase program on May 15th and presenting a #Vaccinate Prince Edward Scholarship to graduating senior Ja’Nyla A.L. Green.

Ja’Nyla is the daughter of Ms. ShaNequa Scott of Farmville and will attend Hollins University in the fall, where she plans to study mathematics and data science.  She was presented a $2,000 scholarship check by Board Chair Bill Jenkins and County Administrator Doug Stanley.

“It is always an honor to celebrate the promise of our young people,” said Board Chair Bill Jenkins.  “On behalf of the entire Board of Supervisors, I offer my heartfelt best wishes to Ja’Nyla and all of her classmates as they step into the next exciting chapter of their journey.”

In June of 2021, the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors established the #Vaccinate Prince Edward Scholarship program with $5,000 in local funding to focus the community’s vaccination efforts on the future and to encourage students to get vaccinated.  Local institutions and businesses and a Prince Edward County High School alumnus immediately stepped forward to support the effort and help expand the number of scholarships. The additional $15,000 of sponsorship funding enabled the County to increase the scholarship awards to $2,000 for each of the 10 winning students.

The contributors to the #Vaccinate Prince Edward Scholarship are:

Centra Health                                                 $5,000.00
