Wawa Brings Jobs and Investment to the Community
PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, Va. (March 6, 2025) — Prince Edward County proudly welcomed new business Wawa at the grand opening celebration, held Thursday morning at the site of the county’s newest convenience store and gas station.
The new business marks a significant investment in Prince Edward County’s economy, including the creation of approximately 35-40 new jobs in the community. Additionally, on average, Wawa invests $7.5 million in every new store and employs a variety of local contractors throughout the construction process. That multi-faceted investment signals a long-term boon to the local economy, beginning during construction and continuing now that Prince Edward County’s Wawa has opened its doors.
Thursday’s grand opening event featured a morning of festivities, including free coffee for all customers and a spirited Hoagies for Heroes competition where members of the Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office and Prince Edward Fire & Rescue raced to make as many signature Wawa hoagies as possible. Also in attendance were members of the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors and Industrial Development Authority.
“The addition of Wawa to Prince Edward County is not just about convenience—it’s about jobs, economic growth, and strengthening our local business landscape,” said Chelsey White, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for Prince Edward County. “We are excited to see the positive impact this new business will have on both residents and visitors.”
The new Wawa is located at 2584 Farmville Road in Farmville, Virginia, and is expected to provide quality food, fuel, and service to the community while supporting local workforce development. Sitting on Highway 15 and near the overpass for Highway 460—two main thoroughfares for Prince Edward and surrounding counties—the Wawa occupies a high-traffic location in the county.
