All Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen, be 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, be in good physical and mental health. They must also pass a background check and drug test, have a good driving record, and possess a valid driver's license at the time of hire. They have not engaged in any activity that would support a domestic violence or felony conviction, and be of good moral character and behavior.
Some of the duties performed by a Sheriff's Deputy are: patrols, answers complaints, serves legal documents, criminal warrants, and civil papers, plus enforces laws, traffic enforcement, community policing events, and any other duties assigned by the Sheriff.
Virginia DCJS Certified Officers preferred, but not required. Uncertified new hires will have to complete a training at the Department of Criminal Justice Academy.
Salaries start at $50,000 per year depending on experience and/or qualifications.
