How do we support Virginia’s economy?
- Our broadband expansion project with Kinex Telecom will strengthen access, capacity and networking capabilities across the County with an expected completion date of 2027.
- By working closely with employment services, we continue to ensure a well-trained workforce and a fluid and dedicated pipeline of employees.
- We pursue grants, offering incentives for businesses to expand or locate in our county. In fiscal year 2021, we secured over $1.2 million in total grant funding.
- We’re expanding the tax base and growing agricultural and forestry/timber services as part of the 2018-2038 Strategic Plan(PDF, 99KB).

Progressive
In 2006, the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative completed the installation of a communications connection on the property of the Prince Edward County Business Park. The highly scalable telecommunications transport networking capabilities now available in the Heart of Virginia have increased the region's competitiveness.
Enterprising
Prince Edward County’s Enterprise Zone Program is a Commonwealth of Virginia, economic development program managed by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The State’s Enterprise Zone Program is designated to offer state and local incentives for businesses to locate or expand within the designated zone areas. Prince Edward County has one enterprise zone designation that includes portions of the Town of Farmville and consists of 2,608 acres as shown on the Enterprise Zone Map(PDF, 853KB).
As part of the Enterprise Zone, Prince Edward County owns 100+ acres of a Business Park, where multiple industries currently reside. In 2009, the County developed 4 new "ready-to-go" industrial sites. These new sites are designed and marketed to attract additional industries to Prince Edward County.
