Farmville, VA – September 11, 2025 – Prince Edward County is proud to help 5 Pillar Meats Processing celebrate its grand opening and ribbon cutting on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony marks the official launch of a new USDA traditional and halal processing facility that will play a vital role in advancing agricultural and food entrepreneurship opportunities for local producers. Guests who attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony will have the opportunity to tour the facility, explore the retail shop, meet the team, and learn more about the services offered by 5 Pillar Meats.

Members of the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors and Industrial Development Authority (IDA) will be present to recognize the impact of this investment in the county. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) and the Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission (TRRC) will also be represented at the event.

5 Pillar Meats Processing was founded with the mission of providing high-quality, ethically sourced meats while supporting local farmers and strengthening Virginia’s food systems. With a focus on animal welfare, sustainability, and community partnerships, the facility reflects the company’s commitment to ensuring that both producers and consumers benefit from its work.

“We are excited about helping two parts of our community; the farmers/producers and the everyday consumer,” stated 5 Pillar Meats Owner/Operator, Sekou Abdus-Sabur. “Everyone deserves the opportunity to have local quality products at their fingertips”.

In addition to processing, 5 Pillar Meats also features an on-site retail shop where customers can purchase locally sourced fresh and frozen meats, as well as cheese and eggs. This direct-to- consumer outlet makes it easy for families to enjoy local products while supporting area farmers.

“The opening of 5 Pillar Meats Processing is more t

han a ribbon-cutting. It represents growth, innovation, and a strong partnership between agriculture and community,” said Douglas P. Stanley, County Administrator. “We are proud to welcome this business to Prince Edward County and look forward to the benefits it will bring to our citizens and farmers.”

“Supporting local agriculture is one of the most effective ways we can strengthen our economy,” said Brad Watson, IDA Chair. “This facility gives producers in our region access to high-quality processing and now also provides families with a place to purchase fresh local food.”

“This is the type of investment that helps rural communities thrive,” said Victor (Bill) Jenkins, Chair of the Board of Supervisors. “5 Pillar Meats is creating opportunities for farmers and consumers alike, and Prince Edward County is proud to play a part in that story.”

“5 Pillar Meats has been a wonderful addition to the Prince Edward Business Park and a pleasure to work with. This operation has the potential to positively impact the local economy, and I am excited to see this project come to fruition,” stated Chelsey White, Director of Economic Development and Tourism and Grants and Clerk to the Industrial Development Authority.

“Congratulations to 5 Pillar Meats and Prince Edward County for helping to boost the local economy by investing in Southside Virginia livestock producers,” said Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Matt Lohr. “In addition to expanding meat processing capabilities in the area, this project helps address food access for local residents, create new jobs in a rural community, and promotes agriculture, Virginia’s largest private industry.”

On September 13th, starting at 8:00 a.m., 5 Pillar Meats will hold a grand opening event for the community. Attendees will experience product samples, music, door prizes, and great fellowship. A complimentary lunch will be provided at noon.
