County Comprehensive Plan, PEC2045, Wins Award for Innovative Approaches
Last month at the annual meeting of the Virginia Chapter-American Planning Association (APA-VA), the County of Prince Edward received state-wide recognition and was presented the 2026 Old Dominion Award for Innovative Approaches: Population Under 100,000 for its PEC2045: Forward Together Comprehensive Plan.
“The APA-VA recognition really belongs to the people who helped shape this plan,” said Douglas P. Stanley, County Administrator. “Our citizens and focus group members gave of their time and shared their ideas about the future they want for Prince Edward County, and our Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, county staff, Longwood University students and faculty, and the Berkeley Group worked incredibly hard to turn that input into a plan that is both ambitious and achievable. Stanley continued, “I am especially proud that the process itself has been recognized for innovation, because PEC2045 demonstrates what can happen when a community comes together, listens to one another, and turns a shared vision into a practical roadmap for the future.”
