Comprehensive Plan
About the Project
Prince Edward County is revising and updating its Comprehensive Plan!
The Comprehensive Plan is a community-driven document that sets a vision and goals for the future of Prince Edward County over the next 20 years.
The Comprehensive Plan addresses topics such as land use, development, economic growth, transportation, and natural and cultural resources in the unincorporated areas of Prince Edward County. The policies defined in the plan will guide the County’s future direction and priorities for growth, services, and land use regulation.
About the Process
Updating the Comprehensive Plan is a collaborative effort between Prince Edward County’s Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission, residents, business owners, and other stakeholders. Community information and public input has been gathered and is being used to draft new priorities, goals, and strategies into the Plan’s chapters. The Comprehensive Plan relies on continued public input, so we encourage the people of Prince Edward County to be an active part of this process!

It's a Wrap!
Prince Edward County would like to THANK ALL who participated in the initial community engagement activities—including focus groups, public workshops, and a community survey—as well as those who attended the two public Open Houses held to present the full draft Plan and collect comments. This input has been used to guide the drafting of the Comprehensive Plan, PEC2045: Forward Together, helping to shape a vision and set priorities that reflect the values and goals of the community!
Up Next!
The full draft Comprehensive Plan, PEC2045: Forward Together, is now available! The Plan was developed with input from the public, and further refined through collaborative meetings between County staff, the Planning Commission, and the Board of Supervisors. As required by the Code of Virginia, the next step is a public hearing prior to the final adoption of the Plan. Prince Edward County has elected to hold this hearing jointly between the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at the Prince Edward County Courthouse.
